Thoughts From Bob

   Advice  Jesus  gave to  Jairus when  things looked  hopeless

 This story   has much  human interest and  it has a spectacular ending,

Jairus was a  ruler of the  Synagogue so we know he had wealth and  power  and  probably was a  very  successful.  We are told he had a  gate house  so  probably had a  mansion in the  drive  beyond the  gatehouse. RGSJr.

Mark chapter 5

²¹Now when Jesus had crossed over again by boat to the other side, a great multitude gathered to Him; and He was by the sea. ²²And behold, one of the rulers of the synagogue came, Jairus by name. And when he saw Him, he fell at His feet ²³and begged Him earnestly, saying, “My little daughter lies at the point of death. Come and lay Your hands on her, that she may be healed, and she will live.” ²⁴So Jesus went with him, and a great multitude followed Him and thronged Him.

Even  though  the story  begins with Jairus who had an urgent message Jesus did not get in a  hurry.  He is interrupted  by a poor woman  who  had  troubles for  twelve years and  she had spent all her  money on  doctors and  was still worse than she had  ever been. RGSJr.

 God likes positive thinkers

The Holy  Bible is full of stories that illustrate the love of  God for those people who love  Him and keep  his commandments.  I am sure the stories are meant to inspire us and encourage us.  Sometimes when we are facing a serious problem it is fun to allow you to admire the heroes in the Bible stories.  RGSJr.

One of the great quotes in the Bible is found in  the book of  Hebrews,  Chapter 11 :6

⁶But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

The story I like that illustrates the blessing of the Lord on men of faith is found in the  Old  Testament in the  book  of  Numbers Chapter 13

 God is Good!
God   made us and  loves us.

If you  want to do something that  praises and  pleases 

Him  you  must learn  to  pray

I found this  little   Poem  and  realized the  author of the  poem was able to  give this advice maybe better than  I could.

THE POEM

I knelt to pray but not for long,
I had too much to do.
I had to hurry and get to work
For bills would soon be due.
So! I knelt and said a hurried prayer,
And jumped up off my knees.
My Christian duty was now done
My soul could rest at ease….
All day long I had no time
To spread a word of cheer
No time to speak of Christ to friends,
They’d laugh at me I’d fear.
No time, no time, too much to do,
That was my constant cry,
No time to give to souls in need
But at last the time, the time to die.
I went before the Lord,
I came, I stood with downcast eyes.
For in his hands God held a book;
It was the book of life.
God looked into his book and said
“Your name I cannot find.
I once was going to write it down…
But never found the time”

To my  Grandchildren:

The most important thing I can give to you is an encouragement to learn more about the God who made you and make sure you know how important you are in His eyes.

God loves you and wants you to be happy and successful.

The best way to do that is to believe in yourself with all your might!

Each of you have special talents and of course different abilities and different interests.

If God made you and loves you and wants good things for you then one of the best things you can do is to learn more about God.  The place you do that is through   His Word and His Word is the Bible.

This book is written by men that wrote the ideas they got from God.

 Dear Friend who I hope loves Bible Stories

I wrote this set of pages to attempt to get my  grandchildren to begin  to love and read the Bible.

It is wonderful hand a young person the  Bible and then tell them it is full of  good stories.

That is the truth but unless  they have some  idea  of where  to look or where to start the  thing that happens  they will begin  with good intentions but are soon discouraged  because  they really don’t know where to look or worse yet they have never heard some  of the famous Bible stories.

Daniel is one of the best. story tellers.

The  3 men in the fiery furnace can spark a child’s imagination.  When  they see the  king is  sorry and finds out  that  Jesus met these men and  protected  them it can  leave an impression in their minds  that will enrich their lives for the rest of their life. 

I am sure that is precisely why   God had Daniel write the story in the first place.

This set of stories is my gift to you in the hopes it will help you with your teaching assignment.  The stories are short enough so that they will fit in most single session periods. 

If this Idea has any merit for your teaching you will know after you try one or two of these stories.

If it stimulates the desire of kids to begin to read the   bible it will change their lives.

DAVID AND GOLIATH

There is one single factor responsible for the miraculous advancement of mankind from the Stone Age to the affluent remarkable life we can live today.  Ever since Adam and Eve were evicted from the Garden of Eden mankind has faced hunger and starvation. 

In fact our scientists tell us that the time Columbus discovered America the land we now call the United States was inhabited by approximately  800,000 Indians.  Maybe today they want to be called Native Americans.

The sad facts are that half of them starved to death.  Without the skills and equipment we have to produce food starvation was a real and genuine threat.  The Bible says my people perish from lack of knowledge.  Hosea 4:6

So perhaps the legitimate question is how did we get where we are today?  The answer of course is knowledge.

When I looked up the definition of the word, knowledge I found 10 different aspects of understanding the word.  The first says it is acquaintance with facts, truths or principles gained from study or investigation. 

I liked the 9^th definition which says the sum of what is known.

The Book Of Daniel

I intended to write a story about Daniel in the Lion’s den.  But  as I began to look for  that particular  story  it became obvious that the  original story  teller in this book was truly a master wordsmith so we will begin where  he did.

Daniel

Daniel 1

¹In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came to Jerusalem and besieged it. ²And the Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand, with some of the articles of the house of God, which he carried into the land of Shinar to the house of his god; and he brought the articles into the treasure house of his god.

³Then the king instructed Ashpenaz, the master of his eunuchs, to bring some of the children of Israel and some of the king’s descendants and some of the nobles, ⁴young men in whom there was no blemish, but good-looking, gifted in all wisdom, possessing knowledge and quick to understand, who had ability to serve in the king’s palace, and whom they might teach the language and literature of the Chaldeans. ⁵And the king appointed for them a daily provision of the king’s delicacies and of the wine which he drank, and three years of training for them, so that at the end of that time they might serve before the king. ⁶Now from among those of the sons of Judah were Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. ⁷To them the chief of the eunuchs gave names: he gave Daniel the name Belteshazzar; to Hananiah, Shadrach; to Mishael, Meshach; and to Azariah, Abed-Nego.

Daniel writes most of this story using Daniel as the third person even though I think he could have said I did, etc.  The story unfolds better the way he tells it.  The day and time when it  began was  when   Jerusalem was conquered by a king from what we call Iraq.
