Little Orphan Annie

Little Orphan Annie

I had a few rabbits and a few sheep and was just starting in the 4H club.

The phone rang one day and it was Frank S. Aichelman the son of Uncle Frank that I have already talked about.

Frank had a few sheep and one of the ewes had twins and would not take care of one of the babies.  He asked my mother if  it was OK with her if he could give me the orphaned lamb.

Mom asked me and of course I was excited for the opportunity.  Frank drove in the yard a few minutes later with this poor scrawny little lamb.  He  explained that she needed to be kept warm and suggested for a few days that she get about 3 ounces of milk per feeding from a nursing bottle.

Mom still had a bottle or two left from taking care of my brother Bud and so I began to try to feed the lamb with mom’s coaching and help.  I don’t think it took very many days for the lamb to sleep all night and of course she and I became good friends.  I had a dog named Towser and a pigeon I had saved from some sort of problem so if I went to the field to thin my  sugar beets Mom could see where I was.

I  was on my hands and knees thinning beets and wasn’t much good at it.  But she could see the dog or the pigeon or the lamb because they were watching me work.

Jairus the ruler

Advice  Jesus  gave to  Jairus when  things looked  hopeless

This story   has much  human interest and  it has a spectacular ending,

Jairus was a  ruler of the  Synagogue so we know he had wealth and  power  and  probably was a  very  successful.  We are told he had a  gate house  so  probably had a  mansion in the  drive  beyond the  gatehouse. RGSJr.

Mark chapter 5

21Now when Jesus had crossed over again by boat to the other side, a great multitude gathered to Him; and He was by the sea. 22And behold, one of the rulers of the synagogue came, Jairus by name. And when he saw Him, he fell at His feet 23and begged Him earnestly, saying, “My little daughter lies at the point of death. Come and lay Your hands on her, that she may be healed, and she will live.” 24So Jesus went with him, and a great multitude followed Him and thronged Him.

Even  though  the story  begins with Jairus who had an urgent message Jesus did not get in a  hurry.  He is interrupted  by a poor woman  who  had  troubles for  twelve years and  she had spent all her  money on  doctors and  was still worse than she had  ever been. RGSJr.

God likes positive thinkers

 God likes positive thinkers

The Holy  Bible is full of stories that illustrate the love of  God for those people who love  Him and keep  his commandments.  I am sure the stories are meant to inspire us and encourage us.  Sometimes when we are facing a serious problem it is fun to allow you to admire the heroes in the Bible stories.  RGSJr.

One of the great quotes in the Bible is found in  the book of  Hebrews,  Chapter 11 :6

6But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

The story I like that illustrates the blessing of the Lord on men of faith is found in the  Old  Testament in the  book  of  Numbers Chapter 13

What is a treasure ?

What is a  treasure ?
We are spiritual beings.  Our ability to enjoy life depends upon our ability to understand something as simple as an idea.  Our Constitution guarantees us the right to pursue life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.  For me the recollection of a pleasant memory is a source of happiness.
19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal;
20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.
21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Your DNA

 A story about your DNA

Genes are portions of the Chromosomes.  Chromosomes are the portions of the DNA.

DNA is a remarkable chemical code that controls the way each cell in your body is structured.

Imagine if you can  that the moment you were conceived some of the chromosomes for one parent combined with the  chromosomes of the other parent and the new individual now contains an absolutely different blueprint form every other  person on the earth.

Then when you accept this fact, enlarge your thinking to recognize that every living thing has s similar type of cell identification.  If you could find the model and serial number of a cell in your body or a the body of a sugar beet, or a  goldfish, or a  mouse, or a house fly that model and serial  number is the  DNA molecule,

The DNA is the chemical code or instruction blueprint that instructs the cell how to  build another cell exactly like itself.

The fact that cells  maintain the integrity of a single   organ in the body depends on the ability of  the cell to make another  exactly like itself.  The simplest example we can all visualize is to know that if you make a cut in your skin the skin will repair itself.  If it is a bigger cut we put  stitches into the skin to  hold the cut edges together while the skin build new cells to repair the damage.

Template to guide your thinking

I had six honest serving men

They taught me all I knew

Their names were, What and Where and When

And How and Why and Who

This is a template to guide your thinking. It has a universal application to any task which requires your thinking and planning for your next action.

These six questions if used properly will give you the answer to virtually any problem you will encounter. The simplest way I know to teach about the skill of making good decisions is to provide an example.

This is the way I became a valuable trouble shooter for the company I worked for. Our job was to supply new, different and effective treatments for all manner of animal enterprises on farms. We had unique and valuable answers to improve the profit for any farmer who depended on his animals to make him some money.

The circumstances for my first meeting with the farmer were usually potentially very challenging because the farmer was very unhappy. His cows were sick and he had spent some money for what he thought was going to be an answer to his problem. Now that money is gone and the disease problem has gotten worse and his monetary losses were severe enough that his farm would be facing bankruptcy.
